Naturopaths practice a variety of natural alternative treatments. These treatments include, among others, herbal therapeutics, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, nutritional counseling, as well as homeopathy. All naturopaths receive basic training in homeopathic therapeutics as part of their education.
Homeopaths receive exclusive training in the theory, practice, and management of cases according to the principles of homeopathic therapeutics. This training spans from three to four years. Educational requirements for a diploma in homeopathy may also include the following areas (depending on the institution that granted the diploma):
- Nutrition, and possible interference from both food and supplements (herbal and vitamin) with certain prescription medications
- Anatomy and physiology (how the body is built and how it functions)
- Pathophysiology (functional changes that accompany a particular syndrome or disease)
- Diagnostic physical examination, including blood pressure monitoring, skin examination, ear, nose and throat examinations, eye examinations, as well as pediatric examinations and examinations during pregnancy
